What will the car of the future look like? In the opinion

of American engineer Paul Moller, it will

be small, very fast, and have wings. Mr Moller

has invented a small flying passenger vehicle,

which will solve all those problems with traffic

jams. The car will fly at a height of nearly five metres

and will be controlled by a computer. The driver will

just have to press a button which selects the destination,

and the car does the rest. It can carry four people

including the driver, and should be able to reach

a maximum speed of485 kilometres an hour. Like more

traditional cars, it will be powered by a petrol engine,

using approximately one litre of fuel for

every ten kilometres. The only problem

is the cost. At one million dollars per car, not many

people will be able to afford one. Mr Moller thinks

the price will fall as more flying cars are produced.

If he’s lucky, Mr Moller will become a rich

man; the New York newspaper theWall Street Journal has calculated that he could earn up to a thousand billion dollars – that’s a lot of money. But for the moment, six cars have been ordered – by the US army.
