Quick Start Guide – v1.0
This is a very quick guide on how to use POInspect0r to create your own custom
PersonalPOI database for use on the Volkswagen RNS510 Satellite Navigation
System.
This document is provided “as is” and has been created after some considerable
time working with both the RNS and also POInspect0r.
As ever, thanks to rds++ for his amazing work on the application!
What you will need
For this to work, you will need the following items:
a VW RNS510 with firmware 38xx or later installed
a Windows XP or later system
a suitable SD card for data transfer
points of interest data (such as speed camera databases)
Installation
Download the latest POInspect0r from http://poinspect0r.blogspot.com/ and then
install on a suitable Windows PC.
Prepare the POI data
Download or create a suitable CSV or ASC file of points of interest. They need to
contain, as a minimum, a name for the location and a latitude and longitude.
POInspect0r can use a variety of file formats – please check the documentation.
More about additional fields later in document.

Create a new Database
You can either chose to create a new database or re-use one that already exists.
The current beta version of POInspect0r can create a new database for you.
Firstly launch POInspect0r from within Windows Explorer.
Now select “New” from the top left of the window and name the database with a
suitable name (suggested is PersonalPOI). This name appears on navi screen as well.
This will create a new database called PersonalPOI.db3 in the POInspect0r directory.
If you wish to move this database, close POInspect0r, move the database, reopen
the application and then locate and open the PersonalPOI.db3 file.
Tip: When you do not see a changes you’ve made, try click on reload button 1 st .
Once you have created a new database, you will see a window with one POI
category called “PersonalPOI” in the left.

To change the name of this category, you simply right-click and then select “Edit
category.”
We now want to add some further categories (or “children”) to this main category.
Right-click the newly named category and then click “Add category > add child”. If
you were wanting to add a new top-level category, then you can select “sibling” to
keep it at the same level.
You can drag and drop categories to move them about. This will move category in
the new selected parent folder. To move any non root category to the top root, drag
and drop it to the bottom white empty place.
To delete a category you must first remove all POIs from that category and then
remove the category itself.

Create a suitable named category and then select the appropriate icon. In the
current beta you cannot use your own icons.
In the latest version of POInspect0r new button called “Tools” has been added. There
is possibility to add custom icons.
Add all of the other categories to the main category (as “siblings”) and select the
appropriate icons. Once you have done, you can now add the POIs.
I always make back up copies at various stages - this can help when all goes wrong
and you have spent ages setting up the categories!
