Materials Required:
White Linda evenweave 28 count: 5.5cm x 6cm,
4cm x 4.5cm and 2.5cm x 2.5cm.
12cm Length of thin White thread or string.
Short length of fine Silver thread.
Sharp craft knife and cutting mat.
Cocktail stick, pencil and ruler.
Garden background sheet: CS001.
Thin tracing paper 142mm x 196mm: TR001.
Basket button (or make your own from clay).
Stranded cottons in: Orange, Purple and White.
Pastel: Pink, Yellow, Green, and Blue.
1 Metre of 3mm wide Pale Yellow ribbon.
Double sided tape and a sticky fixer.
UHU all purpose glue: ADH01.
Card mount: AP48G-CO-HO-61, White and
Holographic Silver.
To Make The Card:
Fold the card and draw round the inside edge
of the aperture onto the panel beneath, unfold
the card again. You need to cut an aperture in the
marked panel to match the one on the front, but
making it just 1mm larger all round than the
front one so the edges do not show when the
card is folded. Using a ruler to keep the lines
straight mark another box 1mm further out, or
just cut 1mm out from the drawn lines.
Place strips of double sided tape around the
cut aperture and the outer edges of the panel.
Peel off the backing pieces from the tape, cut a
12cm length of white thread and place it across
the hand cut aperture approx. 2cm from the
top edge with the ends over the sticky tape. It
should be pulled fairly straight, but not too tight.
Fold the flap over the centre panel and press
firmly to stick. The washing line will now be
hanging in the aperture space.
Select an area of garden paper to fit behind
the aperture and cut it to 142mm x 196mm. Run
a line of double sided tape along the front left
hand edge of the garden paper and stick the
tracing paper in front of it. Run a line of tape
along the same edge of the garden paper but on
the back. Peel off the backing from the tape,

align the insert on the back panel of the card
and press into place.
Stitch the blanket onto the 5.5cm x 6cm piece
of fabric following the chart for colours and
working the stitches over two threads as shown.
Note: the stitching should be worked centrally
from side to side but with a 5mm larger gap at
the top than the bottom. This is to allow the top
of the fabric to be folded over the washing line
and still leave all the pattern showing. The 28
count fabric looks more delicate but you can use
14 count, working over one thread if you prefer.
When the stitching is complete, pull away the
threads going from top to bottom on the sides
and from side to side along the top and bottom
edges to make a fringe as shown below.
Cut the handle and shank from the button
and use a sticky fixer to attach it to the card at
the lower right corner of the aperture. Stick the
small piece of fabric to the basket at the end
without a fringe using double sided tape. Fold
the fringed end at the side and use a little double
sided tape to attach the back edge to the front
of the card.
Fold the left hand edge of the duck towel
under by about 6mm and press, or hold in place
with a little tape (this will be the point of the
blanket on the card). Using the photo to guide
you, fold the top end to fit onto and to the back
of the basket so the two pieces together look
tucked into the basket. Use double sided tape to
hold it in place, a stitch or two at the back, or
some sticky tape across the back might be useful
as well.
Take hold of the two threads that fall between
the stitched squares and pull to remove them
completely as shown above. Pull the two threads
between each of the remaining squares, working
from side to side and top to bottom.
The towel is made in two pieces otherwise it
is too bulky to fit neatly onto the basket button.
Fringe three adjacent edges on the 2.5cm square
of fabric by pulling four threads along each
edge and put it aside for later.
It is a bit fiddly, but well worth the effort to
make the tiny pegs. Cut four 12mm pieces from
the cocktail stick, avoiding the pointed ends and
make two pegs as follows. Pick up two of the
sticks, have the silver thread handy as the glue
dries fairly quickly. Apply a small amount of
glue to the top half of each stick as you are hold-
ing them, wind a short piece of silver thread in
a figure of eight around the middle of the sticks
and gently hold the bottom slightly apart while
the glue dries. Trim off any excess thread.
Fold the top of the blanket over at the start
of the pattern and crease firmly with your fin-
gers or by pressing. Hang the blanket on the
washing line and adding another dab of glue
to the inside of the pegs place them over the
top of the blanket.
Wind the pale yellow ribbon round the card
close to the fold and tie in a bow, trim any excess
length if necessary.
Stitch the wave pattern and ducks on the last
piece of fabric following the chart. The bottom
edge of the wave pattern should be placed just
5 or 6 threads up from the bottom of the fabric.
Fringe the lower edge by pulling away four of
the threads beneath the embroidery.
