Ve rsion 2.1 promises to be the fastest
Yoper yet. This version also supports
Reiser4 for the root partition, NTFS resiz-
ing, graphical partitioning, and a
clustered control panel.

great niche for a small Linux distro, and
the Yoper team rises to the role. Their
focus is on optimizing everyday Linux
packages to deliver higher performance.

claims to be the fastest distribution
around. The latest release of Knoppix is
also included, always something handy
to have. The rest of the DVD is packed
full of videos of the lectures from the
recent aKademy Conference – just sit

son enough to start up Knoppix 3.6.
FreeNX is based on the NX X compres-
sion technology.
FreeNX can reportedly support a per-
fectly responsive X11 session over a 56K
dialup modem. Even if you are happy
with the last Knoppix, you might as well
try this one too. Why not? It all boots
from a CD, so if you don’t like it, you can
always reboot.
Knoppix 3.6
The Knoppix juggernaut keeps on rising.
This month’s DVD includes version 3.6,
known as the aKademy version. Inside
you’ll find Linux kernel 2.4.27 – with
kernel 2.6.7 as a boot option – KDE
3.2.3, and Gimp version 2.0.
This version also includes ndiswrap-
per, for loading proprietary wireless
drivers. Debuting with version 3.6 is the
FreeNX server, a tool for supporting
super-efficient X sessions over network
Yoper 2.1
The creators of Yoper call it, “…a multi-
purpose, high-performance operating
system that has been carefully optimized
for PCs with 686-or-higher processor
types. The binaries that come with Yoper
have been built from scratch using the
Linux Kernel 2.6
This month we feature cutting-edge ker-
nels from the 2.6.8 series. We also
include the 2.6.9-rc1 release candidate
development release. This month’ Ker-
nelware is in the
/Kernels 2.6
directory:

vided the technology for the video
recording and broadcast.
