Publisher’s Note / Anniversary wish -
Holy crap we just turned 11 years old! That’s right we are starting our 12th year as of
this issue! To celebrate we are featuring some Atlanta hotness since that’s where we started
and still call home.We have been so busy over the years putting this magazine together we
have hardly had time for anything else. One of the things that I personally dropped the ball
on (11 years in) is the Facebook social media tsunami. The magazine has always been my
social network.That is what magazines used to be for everyone.Well the big issue that needs
immediate attention for the present and the future is our facebook page. For an anniversary
gift to us, I am asking all of our loyal readers to LIKE US ON FACEBOOK! Go to www.facebook.com/prick-
mag and like us now! Sadly “success” these days is based on your “likes” now more so than the last decades

Tattoo Convention

I t’s the first weekend in June and that can only mean
one thing in Iceland. No, it’s not another volcanic
eruption, it’s time for the Icelandic Tattoo Convention
in downtown Reykjavik. This year marked the 6th anniver-
sary of the event, which brought together eclectic and talent-
ed tattoo artists from around the world.
The Nordic fresh air and the great people of Reykjavik
complimented a certain vibe of excitement and anticipation.

The event was held Friday, June 3rd to Sunday June 5th
at Sodoma, a popular venue for drinking, dancing and
live music. The days were filled with the buzz of tattoo
machines, artists and attendees while at night, the
venue transformed to host fantastic rock and roll per-
formances by some of Iceland’s best talent.
Because of the smaller size of the Icelandic con-
vention, the artists are hand picked by the organizers
to accommodate the best of their craft. This year’s

artists included Americans, Jason June of Three Kings Tattoo (Brooklyn, New York),
Javier Betancourt of Ocho Placas Tattoo (Miami, Fla.),Tomas Garcia of Tattoo
Paradise (Washington D.C.), Steve Boltz of Smith Street Tattoo Parlor (Brooklyn,
New York), Zach Nelligan of Triple Crown Tattoo (Austin,Tex), Jesse Allen Gordon
of Amillion Tattoo (Austin Tx), Chip Baskin of Queen of Hearts Tattoo (Mobile,Al)
and Phil Young of Hope Gallery (New Haven, Conn.). Of course the locals repre-
sented Iceland’s ever growing tattoo scene with Atli of MotorSmidjan, Sindri and
some particularly nice work from Fjolnir of The Icelandic Tattoo Corp, (Islenzka
Hudflurstofan).
Right from the beginning the top notch hospitality of the organizer’s and staff
was apparent. They say this convention is an artists’ convention as it combines
both a relaxing and catered vacation with the opportunity to work and produce
some really great tattoos. I had the chance to speak with talented artist Phil Young.
He explained the convention allows him “to be able to do art outside of tattooing
and painting. Playing music is very important to me. I am very grateful to Ossur
and Linda for this convention. It’s quite a treat to come here and be hosted like
this.” Some might say Phil’s a lucky guy, but he likes “to think that years of really
hard work, not luck have afforded me the ability to live the great life I have.”
Friday night’s concert was lead by the post hardcore band Endless Dark, 6
