INSTALLATION ************************************************************ Thank you for purchasing NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS =========================== Windows 98, 98 Second Edition, ME, 2000 Professional, XP Professional, or XP Home operating system Intel Pentium III (or equivalent) CPU running at 933MHz or higher 32MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card (Geforce2 or higher) using a supported chipset (see below) 256 MB RAM DirectX compatible sound card 2 GB of HD space 8X CD-ROM To play online a network card is required for broadband connectivity Installation Instructions: Exit all applications. It is recommended that you do not run unnecessary background applications when installing the game. Insert Disc 1 into your computer's CD drive. The Autorun menu will appear as soon as your disk drive recognizes the disk. Select to Install the game. A prompt will appear to enter your install code. Enter the install code and click on the Next button. You will then get a menu asking to choose either a default install or the advanced install (which allows you to specify an install directory). Select Next and the game will begin installing. ************************************************************ 2. MANUAL ADDENDUM ************************************************************ VIDEO CARD SUPPORT ================== Although Direct3D is supported, this support is only officially extended to certain 3D accelerator devices. The following major D3D chipsets are supported. ATI Radeon 7500 or greater NVIDIA GeForce2 or greater While Direct3D supports a wider variety of 3D accelerator devices, the behavior of NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 cannot be predicted in these situations. In extreme cases, running NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 with a Direct3D device that is not officially supported can lead to an unstable PC environment. SOUND CARD SUPPORT ================== NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 supports DirectSound. If your sound card driver does not support DirectSound you may experience choppy or stuttering sound or sound that cuts in and out. If your sound card driver does not support DirectSound, we recommend obtaining updated drivers from your sound card manufacturer. CD-ROM DRIVES and DVD DRIVES ==================================== NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 requires at minimum an 8x CD-ROM/DVD drive. Disc 2 must be in the CD-ROM drive when you start the game. If your system has more than one CD-ROM drive, be sure the game disk is in the same drive from which you installed the game. DEFAULT GRAPHICS SETTINGS ============================== The first time NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 is run, a system check is performed and default levels are set for the various graphics settings. These default levels are set to provide the best game play experience possible based on the hardware detected in your system. These settings can be adjusted in the Display menu of the Options. In the Display options, choose Customize Display Settings. Resolution: Use the arrows to increase or decrease the game resolution. Increasing the game?s resolution may slow down system performance. Level of Detail: Use the arrows beside the Level of Detail bar to increase or decrease global graphics setting. Increasing the Detail setting to high will improve the game?s graphics but may slow down system performance. Customize Display Settings: Tweak individual graphics settings. (See below.) Default Settings: Reset your graphics settings to the default for your hardware configuration. Selecting Customize Display Settings in the graphics menu takes you to the Customize Display Settings menu. The following individual settings are available to tweak to change the game?s graphics output and game performance. Turning all the settings to on may slow down system performance. Car Reflection Update Rate: Increase or decrease how quickly reflections are visible on the car update. Car Reflection Detail: Setting this to High increases the detail of reflections visible on the car. Car Shadow: Increase/decrease car shadows. Decreased shadows may improve system performance. Car Headlight: Turn on or off headlight effects. Car Geometry Detail: Setting this to High increases geometry details on the car. Crowds: Turn on or off animated crowd characters. World Detail: increase the amount of detail visible in world geometry. Decreasing world geometry detail may increase overall system performance. Road Reflection Detail: increase or decrease reflections visible in the road. Light Trails: Turn on or off light trails created as you drive by lights in the world. Light Glow: Turn on or off the glow on light sources. Particle Systems: Turn on or off particle effects. Motion Blur: Turn on or off motion blur. Fog: Turns fog effect on or off. Depth of Field: During race start/end sequences where certain cameras use depth of field. Full Screen Anti-Aliasing: Adjust slider to increase/decrease pixel smoothing. Tinting: When on the Weather tints changes color of the screen based on weather. Horizon Fog: Turn on/off Haze at night on top of buildings and in the sky. Over Bright: When on it increases brightness of bright areas in the game. Enhanced Contrast: Makes the dark areas darker and lights brighter. Rain: Rain splatter effect on/off. Texture Filtering: Adjust the slider to increase/decrease the Quality of the textures. Vsync: Updates the screen based on the refresh rate of your monitor. Not all graphic details are available for all video cards due to hardware limitations. DRIVER PROFILE AND SAVE LOAD ============================ If you are in the Main Menu and you want to create a new Driver Profile, select Create from the Profile Manager Menu. When you start a new driver profile, you will not have any of the progress (unlocked cars, parts, or progress through Career Mode) that you had in your old profile. (You can always log back in under your original profile if you want to go back). Manual Saves: Your game can be manually saved by accessing the Profile Manager Menu and selecting Save. NOTE: Saving your profile saves your game progress. When you make a save game, you are saving your progress in Career Mode, the number of cars, car upgrades, and tracks you have unlocked, and any modifications you have made to your cars. The final game save directory is located at: \Documents and Settings\PC Login ID\Local Settings\Application Data\NFS Underground 2 Substitute your actual Login ID for the PC Login ID mentioned above. ************************************************************ 4. TROUBLESHOOTING ************************************************************ CD AUTOPLAY FEATURE =================== Inserting the game CD into your CD-ROM drive and then immediately running the game either from the Windows Start menu or by double-clicking the game's Desktop icon may cause a conflict with the CD-ROM's AutoPlay feature. The easiest way to avoid this potential conflict is to always wait a few moments after inserting the CD to allow the AutoPlay feature to run the game. EJECTING THE GAME CD ==================== Never eject the game CD when the game is running. Failure to do so can result in serious problems, including being unable to continue the game. FAST USER SWITCHING =================== You will not be able to run two versions of the game using two different windows accounts via the fast user switching (windows key + L).
