Candle Box
Candles are wonderful mood-enhancers at any
time of year.But if your housekeeping skills are
anything like mine,they tend to roll around in a
drawer or get lost in the back of the sideboard.
This candle box is an attractive storage solution
worthy of display in its own right. And, filled with
an assortment of beautiful candles from Home
Hardware, it would also make a beautiful, unique
gift! Thanks to Tim Allard of Caledon East, Ontario,
for the project and instructions.
what youÓll need
materials
¤ 3/4" x 12" pine
¤ #8 x 1-1/2"/#8 x 1-1/4" wood screws
¤ carpenter's glue 2020-315
¤ wooden plugs 8296-621
¤ tung oil 1874-118
tool box
¤ table saw 1346-620
¤ mitre saw 1347-625
¤ cordless drill 1239-966
¤ random orbit sander 1262-305
¤ Forstner drill bit 1213-788
¤ #8 countersink (Quick Drive) 1227-915
1. Size up the pattern and then cut out pieces as
indicated.
2. Assemble the box using #8 x 1-1/2" screws
and glue. Add trim around base using glue and
Brad nails.
3. To make the handle, first cut out finger holes,
then shape the handle piece.
4. Fasten the handle to the lid with glue and drive
one screw up from under the lid.
5. Fasten the lid insert to the underside of lid
using glue and #8 x 1-1/4" screws
6. Plug the screw holes in box, sand and finish.
Assemble lid and lid insert with the grain of the
wood as shown. Wood will move in direction of
arrows.
