“Welcome to the january 2013 Issue
of DigitalSLRPhotography . I thought about
avoiding the usual ‘end of a year gives us the
chance to plan for a fresh start’ routine, but I
decided that while it’s not particularly original,
it’s still a relevant and worthwhile topic to
discuss with you. I’ve certainly always found
this time of year to be a great period to
reect on the last 12 months and how well
I managed to meet my personal goals.
Invariably, the one constant each year is the realisation that I’ve
failed to reach my photo expectations, in terms of the number,
variety and standard of my photography. like many of you, the
demands of having a full-time job and a family limits the time that
can be spent working on taking the best possible images. It’s a
frustrating admission, but I know I’m not alone in having it and I’ve
already set about plans to make sure 2013 is a year that I meet my
photographic goals. congratulations if 2012 proved a successful
year of photography for you – we hope the expert advice and
inspirational images in DigitalSLRPhotography has had something
to do with it. If, like me, you wish you’d done more, then don’t
worry, as you can use this month’s issue as a springboard to
improve the quality and scope of your photography. We’ve plenty
of techniques to try and skills to master. With longer nights than
days, we’ve dedicated a couple of articles to help you capture great
images as darkness descends. as well as top techniques to
shooting at night, MasterYourSkills concentrates on painting with
light, a fun and inventive activity that allows you to capture all sorts
of interesting results. We also have excellent advice for shooting
coastal sunsets from leading photographer ross hoddinott.
