Skirt
Burda sizes 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44
Skirt length, 50 cm (20")
Cutting:
Fold fabric in half widthwise, right side
facing in. Pin pattern piece to fabric, with
one straight edge on the fold. Mark 1 cm
( 3 8 ") wide allowances around edges of pat-
tern piece, on fabric. Cut out fabric piece.
Cut waistband piece from the remaining
fabric to the following length for
size 34: 88.5 cm (35"); size 36: 93 cm (36 3 4 ");
size 38: 97.5 cm (38 1 2 "); size 40: 102 cm (40 1 4 ");
size 42: 105 cm (41 1 2 "); size 44: 110 cm (43 1 2 "),
and 8 cm (3 1 4 ") wide (incl. allowances).
Materials:
Check fabric, 140 cm (55") wide: sizes 34, 36:
1.60 m (1 3 4 yds); sizes 38, 40: 1.65 m (1 7 8 yds);
size 42: 1.70 m (1 7 8 yds); size 44: 1.75 m (2 yds).
2.5 cm (1") wide elastic to fit waist.
Bag
Sewing:
Pin straight edges of skirt together, right
side facing in. Stitch together 1 cm ( 3 8 ")
from edge = center back seam. Press seam
open. Lay narrow waistband edges
together, right side facing in. Stitch
together 1 cm ( 3 8 ") from edge. Press seam
open. Fold waistband in half lengthwise,
wrong side facing in. Stitch open edges to-
gether to upper edge of skirt, matching
seams. Press allowances away from waist-
band. Open a section of seam on inside of
waistband. Pull elastic through opening
and into waistband. Sew ends of elastic
together. Sew seam opening closed. Finish
lower edge of skirt. Press hem to inside, 1 cm
( 3 8 ") wide, and edgestitch in place.
Materials:
Cotton fabric, 140 cm (55") wide: 0.45 m ( 1 2 yd).
1.50 m (60") piping. 1.00 m (40") grosgrain
ribbon, 2.5 cm (1") wide (Martin Pliester). 1
zipper, 40 cm (16") long (YKK). 2 bag handles
“Dice chain“ and 2 D-rings, 2.5 cm (1") wide
(Prym). Pins and iron-on appliqués
(www.killer-kirsche.de). Vilene/Pellon H 410
(Freudenberg).
Recommended fabrics: Fabrics with some
body.
Pattern piece:
Trace pattern piece for side from this page.
Cutting:
Side piece, cut 2
Bag piece, 70 cm x 40 cm (27 3 4 " x 15 3 4 ")
Cut out bag piece and side pieces, adding
1 cm ( 3 8 ") wide seam allowances to all edges.
Pattern piece:
Follow the diagram below to make a full-
size pattern piece. Lay a large sheet of
paper (approx. 1.00 x 1.00 m/ 40" x 40") on
a table. The upper edge and right edge
must form a right angle. Use a thread
“compass” to draw a quarter circle (radius
= r), beginning in upper right corner. Also
mark hem line (= radius plus 50 cm/20" for
skirt length) with the thread “compass”,
beginning at the same corner. Or measure
the length down from the upper circle at
several points and connect these points in a
smooth curve. Cut out this paper pattern
piece.
Belt
Sewing:
Iron interfacing to wrong sides of all pieces.
Cut grosgrain ribbon into 2 equal pieces.
Fold one end of each piece of ribbon to
wrong side, through D-ring, 2 cm ( 3 4 ") wide,
and run other end through slit ring of dice
chain. Stitch ribbon ends in place. Pin rib-
bons to bag piece, each spaced 7 cm (2 3 4 ")
from long (= side) edge and 11 cm (4 3 8 ")
from narrow (= upper) edges. Make sure
that one ring and one D-ring lie next to
each other on each side. Edgestitch edges
of ribbons in place. Press allowances on
narrow (upper) bag edges to wrong side.
Pin fold edges to zipper tapes so that zip-
per teeth remain visible. Edgestitch fold
edges to zipper tapes. Pin piping to right
side of each side piece, with piping tape
lying on seam allowance and piping cord
lying toward center. Overlap beginning and
end of piping at angle, toward seam allow-
ance, on lower edge of side piece. Use one-
sided edge foot to stitch directly next to
cord to attach piping. Pin side pieces to side
edges of bag piece, right sides facing. The
marked center on upper edge of each side
piece shoulder meet zipper. Again use one-
sided edge foot to stitch along piping
attachment seam, thereby catching bag
piece. Turn bag right side out. Attach
spring clasps on ends of dice chains to D-
rings. Place iron-on appliqué as desired and
iron in place. Attach pins.
Materials:
Imitation leather, 140 cm (55") wide:
0.50 m (20").
One large belt buckle with no prong (to be
covered), bar length approx. 6 cm (2 1 2 ").
Textile glue (Gütermann creativ ).
Cutting:
Cut inner belt piece 12 cm (4 3 4 ") wide and
30 cm (12") longer than waist measure-
ment. Cut one end of this piece to a point.
Lay inner belt piece on imitation leather,
wrong sides facing. Cut out the outer belt
piece, 1.5 cm ( 5 8 ") larger than the inner piece
on all sides.

Sewing:
On outer belt piece, turn allowances on
long edges and on point to wrong side, 1 cm
( 3 8 ") wide and glue in place with textile glue.
Spread glue on wrong side of inner belt
piece and glue it to outer piece, wrong sides
facing. Spread glue on outer side of buckle.
Lay buckle on wrong side of piece of imita-
tion leather. Trim leather 1.5 cm ( 5 8 ") from
outer and inner edges of buckle. Clip into
corners on inner edge and clip close up
edge over bar. First fold leather over inner
edges of buckle and glue in place. Trim
away extending leather, if needed. Then
fold leather over outer edges and glue in
place. Fold straight end of belt over bar of
buckle, approx. 6 cm (2 1 2 ") wide, and glue
to back side of belt.
