A Boy's Special Day Rated: PG Penned: goldfinch3 Zhou Abarai was seated across from Asami Ryuichi. The man was the picture of a lounging predator but he knew that the picture was deceiving, a friend of long standing, he knew very well the powerful man was alert to his surroundings…like all true predators. As he took a drink of bourbon he noticed it, if he hadn’t been focused on the man he wouldn’t have seen it—the movement surreptitious and obviously not meant to be observed—Asami glancing at his watch. Tapered fingers held a lit cigarette. A thin plume of smoke trailed upwards scenting the area, as the tumbler being held in a firm grip was raised-only a minute sip of whiskey taken before the drink was set down on the table. Both of them had already spoken and taken care of business matters, conversation turning towards his family and other matters until it just trickled into a companionable silence. Golden eyes turned towards the soft knock at the door and Zhou turned around and was surprised at the sight that beheld his eyes; Renji strode in carrying a sleeping young man in his arms, slender arms were curled against the thin chest and though the boy was tall he appeared small within the embrace of the large man. Bowing his head slightly in greeting, Renji walked towards Asami. Zhou was even more astounded to see Asami gesture to the blonde man to settle the thin figure on Asami’s lap. Renji obeyed the order as if it where nothing out of the ordinary, and by the way Asami eyed the young man in his arms it probably wasn’t. Renji straightened after depositing his burden in his boss’s care and stepped away. “Report.” Came the deep voice of Asami as he settled the figure still sleeping soundly more comfortably on his lap. The head was nestled gently against Asami’s neck, almost as if hiding the boy’s face from Zhou’s view. One arm cradled the boy’s back, the hand coming to rest on the slim hip, the other on the boy’s knees. A slight cough burst from the boy’s mouth, the face hiding deeper into Asami’s neck and with a small motion Asami signaled Renji for the ashtray. The cigarette was snuffed while Renji held the ashtray in his hand; Zhou just watched with piqued interest at the events unfolding, never in his acquaintance with the enigmatic man had he seen Asami act like this towards anyone. Renji’s deep voice brought him to attention, wondering what was going to be said. “As you had instructed Asami-sama, we picked Takaba-san and his companions this morning; after his breakfast we took him to Ueno Koen Park*, from there to Yokohama Cosmoworld*”. Zhou couldn’t believe what he was hearing, but he knew better than to make light of the situation and so he kept his thoughts to himself and continued to listen to Renji. “They enjoyed themselves plenty on the rides and arcades; hours later we headed towards La Qua* where he and his friends were given special treatment and full use of the establishments available services.” Zhou noticed there was something in Renji’s tone and posture that indicted something more had happened; Asami must’ve realized it too because the hand that had been holding onto the boy’s hip appeared to tighten, the knuckles turning white and the boy shifted-his body moving closer to Asami’s body, slender fingers sliding under Asami’s suit to grip the crisp white shirt as the boy whimpered; Zhou looked on as Asami loosened his hold, rubbing gently as his eyes scanned Renji’s face. “What happened?” “He’d gone into the sauna ahead of his friends; I stood a few feet away outside the door but was alerted to something wrong when I heard his agitated voice. A man, who we later learned was a frequent customer of the place, was attempting to accost Takaba-san.” Zhou shivered slightly at the cold glint in Asami’s eyes at the news. Asami growled, the face implacably ruthless contrasting sharply with the soft hold he held on the boy. A soft twitch in Renji’s lips was the only sign of emotion displayed in the man’s face as he proceeded with the details of the transpired events. “When I walked in, Takaba-san had managed to push the man onto the hot stones where he burned his posterior, Sir.” Zhou couldn’t hold back and a chuckle erupted at what he heard, Asami turned towards him, his eyes seeming to glow, a small smile tilting the corner of his lips. It was obvious the boy was a handful, and definitely no mere pretty boy. “The manager called the authorities and an ambulance as it appeared the man had suffered some ‘other’ injuries as well. After that Takaba-san’s friends wished to treat him to an early dinner and so we drove them to the restaurant they’d celebrated New Years in; his friends were dropped off at their respective homes, and we arrived here with no further incidents Asami-sama.” Asami’s brow arched inquisitively, his eyes looking at Renji’s-something transpiring in their looks and Renji gave a slight nod of denial, a quick smile showing before the blank mask replaced the show of emotion. “Well he drank with his friends, Sir.” Zhou saw understanding dawn in the golden eyes, the smile turning to a smirk as the yet to awaken young man continued clinging to Asami’s shirt. “Aah, that explains it. Very well Renji, you may leave.” Renji bowed and left the room, Zhou curious about the whole series of events, speculating if he should risk asking about it. As if sensing his intrigue, Asami watched him for a space of seconds as the hand that had been resting on the boy’s knees delved into honey brown strands of hair. Zhou took in the gentle caress, the close touch of bodies that were obviously intimate with each other-so intimate the boy recognized Asami in his sleep. “A friend of yours?” Without looking up at his question, Asami answered as he continued to stroke the boy’s hair. “He is mine.” The statement was firm, leaving no doubt as to what the young man meant to Asami or the closeness of their relationship. “It’s his birthday today.” Asami’s quiet words explained everything to Zhou. “Why the outing? Wouldn’t expensive jewelry have worked better?” Those eyes finally looked up, fingers tracing the seam of the vintage jeans the boy Takaba wore. “He is not the kind of person to be swayed with materialistic things; I know him well enough to know, that a day out with his friends would be the best gift I could give him.” Zhou realized how much the boy had obviously changed the older man, and he found himself intrigued by the boy Takaba—he was sure to be special if he’d managed to capture the attention of a man such as Asami. Zhou watched as Asami stood up carefully, probably in hopes of not awakening the slumbering boy. “Is it now your turn to celebrate?” A sly grin and molten golden eyes glanced at him. “The rest of the night is mine to enjoy. He still has some 'other' gifts to unwrap.” They shared knowing smirks as Zhou followed Asami out of the office. Zhou stared at Asami’s back as he strode away with his lover in his arms and his bodyguard at his side. “Well with Asami in bed I’m sure it’s going to be a helluva of a party Takaba-san. Happy Birthday Takaba-san! Cheers to you kid!! Zhou said to himself as he continued to watch them walk away.
