This document introduces the fault finding strategy applicable on all the computers in the ABS/traction
control of the Scénic 4x4 (computer identification: PR012 = 240.5).
The following are thus required to carry out fault finding on this system:
– This "Special features of fault finding" Technical Note,
– the wiring diagram for the operation of the vehicle concerned,
– the tools listed under the heading "Special tooling required".
GENERAL FAULT FINDING PROCEDURE:
Use of one of the fault finding tools to identify the system fitted in the vehicle (reading the computer family, the
program no., the vdiag, ...).
Search for "fault finding" documents relating to the system identified.
Consider the information supplied in the preliminary sections.
Read the faults recorded in the computer memory and use the "fault interpretation" section of the documents.
Reminder
: Each fault is interpreted for a particular type of fault storage (fault present, fault stored, fault present or
stored). The tests defined for dealing with each fault should therefore only be applied to the vehicle if the fault
detected by the fault finding tool is interpreted in the document for its type of storage. The type of storage should
be considered when the fault finding tool is used after the ignition has been switched off and on again.
If a fault is interpreted when it is "stored", the conditions for application of the fault finding strategy are listed in the
"Notes" box. If these conditions are not met, use the fault finding strategy to check the circuit of the faulty
component because the fault is no longer present on the vehicle. Use the same procedure if a fault is shown as
stored by the fault finding tool and is only interpreted in the documentation for a "present" fault.
●
Carry out the conformity check (show possible malfunctions not yet detected by the system self diagnosis
procedure) and apply the associated fault finding strategy according to the results.
●
Validation of the repair (disappearance of the customer complaint).
●
Use of the fault finding strategy for the "customer complaint" if the problem persists.
TOOLS REQUIRED FOR WORK ON THE ABS SYSTEM:
– Fault finding tools (except XR25).
– Multimeter.
Reminders
When an intermittent fault is stored, the ABS warning light will illuminate the next time the vehicle is used until the
car reaches
7.5mph (12 km/h).
When the fault is stored, a counter linked to the fault is initialised with a value of
40
.
This counter value will be decremented each time the ignition is switched on if the fault is not present when the
vehicle speed exceeds
7.5 mph (12 km/h).
When the counter value is equal to
1
, it is not decremented any further and the fault is not erased.
When the dialogue is established between the diagnostic tool and the ABS computer, the ABS and EBD (Electronic
Brakeforce Distribution) functions are interrupted, which gives rise to a risk of loss of control of the vehicle under
emergency braking. For this reason, the dialogue is cut as soon as the vehicle speed exceeds
6 mph (10 km/h)
to
reestablish ABS and EBD function.

Conditions for the application of the fault finding strategy to the fault stored
:
The fault is registered as present following: brake pedal held down + "solenoid valve
front left wheel" actuator control
NOTES
Check the condition and position of the
60A ABS fuse
in the engine connection unit.
Ensure continuity between the fuse and
tracks 17 and 18
of the computer connector (presence of +before
ignition on both tracks). Check that the battery terminals are securely connected and in good condition.
Check the connections on the
31-track
computer
connector
.
Check the
ABS earths
(above the ABS unit) and inspect visually all the ABS wiring.
Erase the computer memory, exit the fault finding procedure and switch off the ignition.
Perform a new test with the fault finding tool using the "Front left wheel solenoid valves" actuator control. If the
"Front left solenoid inlet valve circuit" fault reappears, replace the ABS computer (consult the "Help" section
for this operation).
Clear the computer memory.
Perform a road test then a new test with the fault finding tool.
