UNIT 1

Dictation 1

Hello, my name is Tom. I am a student. A table, a chair, a picture, a door, a light, a window, a floor, a wall, a ceiling. They are in the classroom. What is your name? Are you a teacher? Is she a woman? Count from thirteen to twenty, please. What is it? It is my ear. Scotland is a small, cold country but London is a big city. Where is he from? He is from Brazil. The  book is under the table. The picture is not on the wall. You are not behind the table but in front of the chair.

 

Dictation 2

Is it her left eye or her right eye? It's her right eye. The opposite of clean is dirty. 'Where' is a word. How many doors are there in the classroom? The English vowels are: a,e,i,o,u. The letter 'b' is a consonant. Say the word 'pen'. What day is it today?  It's Thursday today. Spell your name. Tuesday is before Wednesday. Saturday is between Friday and Sunday. Who is he? Dictation 3

Which month is between January and March? February. What are the four seasons? They are: spring, summer, autumn and winter. October and November are in autumn. We say a mouse but we say an elephant. A cat is an animal. Thirty is a number. Sixty minutes make an hour. It's a quarter past five. What colour is your hair? It's red. My trousers are blue and your shoes are white. The table is here and the wall is there.

 

Dictation 4

She is a person, not a thing. The plural of 'person' is 'people'. What are her parents' names? My father is not old but he's young. We are not babies or children, but adults. A hundred and thirty eight is a big number. About how old is he? Ask him a question with the word 'what'! Do I have blue eyes? She doesn't have a red umbrella. Does your house have a swimming pool? I don't have a garden at home but I've a computer. You have brothers and sisters. Do you have a telephone? Is it in your bag or on the table? It's in my hand.

 

UNIT 3

Dictation 5

My brother is a policeman, not a secretary. He uses a gun in his job. I drink coffee in the living room, but tea in my bedroom, in bed. I prefer tea without sugar. He eats bread and rice, and drinks good wine. This is not the flag of my country. He speaks Polish at home and Spanish at school. She goes to school on Mondays.

 

Dictation 6

We have breakfast in the morning, lunch in the afternoon and dinner in the evening. They never come to school on Sundays. He always listens to heavy metal. It’s his favourite kind of music. I usually watch the news on television. English and American people are different but they speak the same language. Is this question easy or difficult? I don’t understand.

 

UNIT 4

Dictation 7

He is not sitting, but standing. He is using a computer now. He sometimes uses it after lunch. I eat a lot of fish, but not a lot of meat. He reads newspapers and magazines. We keep ice-cream in the freezer and eggs in the fridge. Those cups, bowls and plates are in the cupboard. We wash kettles and saucepans in the sink. She has a big wardrobe with clothes. Dictation 11

He goes to nightclubs at the weekend. Her skin isn’t hard but it’s soft. Do you add lemon to your tea? Yes, sometimes. Is Richard single? No, he has a wife and they have a beautiful daughter. My grandparents don’t play any musical instruments. My husband plays the guitar and the violin. This city isn’t bigger than London, but it’s older. Her boots are dirtier than his. Dictation 12

UNIT 7

Dictation 13

Did you listen to the radio last night? No, I watched television. He went to Brazil three days ago. She wore a cardigan and trousers yesterday. When was the last time you studied something interesting? Four weeks ago. They thought geography and history were boring. He knew the answer to the question, but he forgot. She understood science and maths very well. On Thursday they went to a pub, drank a lot of beer and sang foreign songs.

 

Dictation 14

He wrote thirteen letters last week. They didn’t remember that their mother’s birthday was on the fourteenth of March. What is the third day of the week? It’s Wednesday. what is the fifth month? It’s May. When were you born? On the twentieth of February. They sold their house and bought an expensive car. We finished studying and started listening to classical music. Did anything interesting happen yesterday? Yes, I gave him a Christmas present.

We went to bed very late last night and woke up early. We were not asleep, but awake, at one in the morning. My grandfather died on the thirty first of December. I’m from the south of my country. He started school at the age of six. Do you know your height in feet and inches? No, I don’t. My weight is the same as my brother’s. Her husband is the tallest person in that family. Australia is the smallest continent in the world. I think Polish was the most boring subject I studied at school. Mary is better at singing then Tom, but Alice is the best in class.

 

UNIT 10

Dictation 19

He will probably be here tomorrow. She has never smoked cigarettes. I like cooking frozen vegetables, I think they are healthy. They have never been to the theatre. A village is smaller then a town. It’s dangerous not to wear a seat belt. The sheep is a farm animal. It is necessary to boil water to make tea. You have to get a visa to travel to the USA. She wants another cup of coffee. We watched TV until midnight. I have enough money to buy a newspaper. You are not old enough to drive a car.

 

Dictation 20

He is strong enough to carry a television on his back. I get drunk when I drink two glasses of wine. I bought a pair of shoes and I paid by cheque. She has lost her credit card. I have worked for this company since June. When you’re ill take a day off. You cough and sneeze when you have a flu, you yawn when you are bored. My friends ate all the food at the party and drank every glass of wine. The train leaves London at 8 o’clock and arrives in Paris at midnight.
