SOLD OUT SOFTWARE QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE *********************************************** Loading computer games can sometimes be a daunting task. We here at Sold Out Software try to make the installation of our games as quick, simple and effortless as possible. To aid yourself in the installation of this piece of software it is helpful that you have at hand certain bits of information regarding your system set-up. 1. The drive letters associated with your machine: All computers have letters assigned to different drives. By default your 'floppy' drive will have the letter A:\ assigned to it, your hard drive will be C:\ and your DVD-ROM will be lettered D:\. If, let's say, you have more than one hard Drive then it is most likely that the second hard drive would be D:\ and your DVD-ROM would have E:\ assigned to it. To avoid confusion, it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the letters assigned to your computer's drives before trying to install your game. To do this, click on the 'My Computer' icon on your Windows desktop with your right mouse button and then select 'Explore' with the left mouse button. The left-hand window will contain all your drives and applicable letters. 2. When we specify 'default directory' it means the directory and drive that the game installation has been pre-set to install to. You may change the installation directory if, let's say, all games are installed to a directory called 'Games' on your system. ***************************************************************** 2. ADOBE ACROBAT READER AND YOUR ELECTRONIC MANUAL ******************************************************* We have provided an electronic manual for this product. This manual is in a PDF format, which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or better to view. We have provided you with Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 for Windows. Once you have successfully installed Acrobat Reader 4.0 you can open the electronic manual PDF file, which is located on your DVD-ROM and called MANUAL. Use the scroll bar to browse through the pages (for full instructions on Acrobat Reader use the on-line guide from the Help menu). You are free to distribute Adobe Acrobat Reader but you must follow to Adobe's License Agreement and proprietary notices that are contained in the Reader installer program. For further information see the ADOBE_C file within the SONOW\ACROBAT folder on your DVD-ROM. Adobe Acrobat Reader -------------------- To manually install Acrobat Reader you should do the following: 1. Go to the 'Start' button on your Windows taskbar, 2. Select 'Run', 3. Type: D:\SONOW\ACROBAT\SETUP.EXE (Assuming that the letter of your DVD-ROM drive is D:) 4. Click 'OK'. Manual ------ To view the manual you should do the following: 1. Go to the 'Start' button on your Windows taskbar, 2. Select 'Run', 3. Type: D:\MANUAL.PDF (Assuming that the letter of your DVD-ROM drive is D:) 4. Click 'OK'. Or simply open the manual by clicking the 'View Manual' button on our installer. (Scroll down to section 3 for details on how to launch the Sold Out installer) ***************************************************************** 3. INSTALLING XIII *********************** The following is the complete step-by-step loading instructions for XIII. 1. Insert the 'XIII' DVD in your DVD-ROM drive. 2. The Autorun should automatically launch the Sold Out installer, if it does not come up then follow these instructions: Click 'START' on your Windows taskbar, Select 'RUN' and then type: D:\SETUP.NOW.EXE (Where D: represents the letter of your DVD-ROM drive) Click OK. If you still cannot see the Sold Out installer then please refer to Section 6 (Troubleshooting) later in this file. 3. Click on the 'Install Game' button. 4. Read through the licence agreement and if you accept the terms, click on 'I ACCEPT', then click 'Next'. 5. Select your installation language and click 'Next'. 6. At the Welcome screen click 'Next' to continue. 7. At the License Agreement select 'I accept' and then click 'Next'. 8. Click 'Next' to continue. 9. Click 'Next' to accept the default location for the game (recommended) or click 'Browse' to select your own location. 10. Please wait while the game files are now copied to your machine. 11. Select your options and click 'Next' complete the installation. 12. If you have installed DirectX, you will need to restart your PC before running the game. ***************************************************************** 4. LOADING XIII ******************** Go to the 'Start' button on your Windows taskbar, Select - 'Programs' or 'All Programs' (XP users), Select - 'Ubisoft', Select - 'XIII', Then click - 'Play XIII'. You will be ready to play the game. ***************************************************************** 5. LAST MINUTE INFORMATION & FAQ's *************************************** XIII Patch v1.03 ================ If you are experiencing any technical problems try installing the Patch. To install the patch do the following: 1. Insert the 'XIII' DVD. 2. Click 'Start' button on your Windows taskbar, 3. Select 'Run', 4. Type:- D:\Patches\xiii_v13.exe (Assuming that the letter of your DVD-ROM drive is D:) 5. Click 'OK'. The patch includes ------------------ - New boot up screens - "You in the Game" . New ingame character in single player. A new winner from the XIII "You in the game" competition is featured in the single player part of the game. - Clarify saved game situation: XIII uses a checkpoint based save system. You can save your progress at a checkpoint either though the ingame menu or by using a keyboard shortcut. During the solo adventure, press F5 to save the game at the last crossed checkpoint. Press F9 to load this particular saved game. - In game information has been changed to reflect more accurately the way the save system actually works. - Multiplayer sabotage mode. - Fix the bug that occurs when changing team at the end of a game. - Single players missions. - Various bug fixes in a few levels (collision related). - Various stability issues on Win2K/XP systems. Known Issues ============ I am having trouble with the Quick Save feature in XIII. After saving a game, I always start at the beginning of the level. You must use the Quick Save (F5), or the main menu Save option to be able to continue with your game, as XIII will not automatically save your progress. Once the game has been saved, you will start from the beginning of the level or from the last checkpoint. I am experiencing erratic mouse movement in the menu system as well as in game. What can I do to fix this? This can occur on some systems. In many cases, you can correct the mouse problems by adjusting the mouse x and y axis speed in the DefUser.ini file located in the ..\UbiSoft\XIII\System folder. Edit or open this file with notepad. Find the lines: MouseX=Axis aMouseX Speed=6.0 MouseY=Axis aMouseY Speed=6.0 and change the values to: MouseX=Axis aMouseX Speed=3.0 MouseY=Axis aMouseY Speed=3.0 If this does not help, try lowering the game resolution until you find a suitable performance setting for your PC. If you have a joystick or gamepad attached to your PC try the following: Edit the XIII.ini file and find the following line: UseJoystick=True and change it to: UseJoystick=False What Internet Ports are Required for XIII?
