1:144 STS-1 Payload assembly instructions
The following pages show a sequence of photos as a guide to build this model. This
applies to STS-1 payload , the DFI (Development Flight Instrumentation) pallet.

Carefully follow all these photo steps.
These are very small parts, use
toothpick to use glue and use
tweezers to hold parts.
The final product, not this prototype, shows numbers
that match with numbers on the 3 boxes. The 2 boxes
face forward and the 3 rd box will be facing aft.

The 3 rd box is shown on the left. The photo on the right is from the prototype model showing the “L”
shaped parts that are glued on the sides of the structure.
These 2 panels are inserted at the very bottom of
the “L” shaped parts. Each panel has a black thick
line that needs to be cut –off so it can be inserted
perpendicular to the “ L” shape part. The panels
are put in an angle following the curvature of the
payload bay floor.
