The 4 Prophetic Messages (Rev. 14:6-13) 

I.                   big picture (Rev. 12-14): The conflict that results in victory

This parenthetical section (Rev. 12-14) occurs after the seventh trumpet (Rev. 11:14-19) which releases the seven bowls of wrath (Rev. 15-16). The purpose of this parenthetical section is to give us insight into the certainty of victory for the saints and to give understanding as to why God’s wrath is so severe. In Rev. 14, God promises reward and victory to His people and defeat and judgment to the followers of the Antichrist.

II.                the promised consequences Rev. 14 (3 sections with 7 parts)

A.                 First section: Rev. 14:1-5 – the 144,000 first fruits of Israel: a model for victory

B.                 Second section: Rev. 14:6-13 four End-Time proclamations the Spirit will anoint.

Rev. 14:6-7 Earthly Victory: Gospel preached to all nations (Mt. 24:14)
Rev. 14:8     Earthly Judgment: Babylon/Harlot Church is destroyed.
Rev. 14:9-11Eternal Judgment: Refuse the mark of the Beast (apostasy)
Rev. 14:12-13 Eternal Reward: Blessing and reward for perseverance.

C.                 Third section: Rev. 14:14-20 Two fold Harvest: salvation and judgment.

III.             Earthly Victory: Gospel preached to all nations (Rev. 14:6-7)

 

Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth--to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people-- 7 saying with a loud voice, "Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water."

(Rev. 14:6-7)

A.                 Gospel preached to every nation (Rev. 7:9; Mt. 24:14)victory for the saints.

B.                 Fear God – consequences for actions (righteous/sinful; temporal/eternal).

C.                 Give glory to Him – to give our strengths to Him (time, treasures, talents).

D.                 Worship Him – to give our affections to Him (heart, mind, words).

E.                  For the hour of His judgment has come – open manifestation of God’s evaluation.

 

IV.             Earthly judgment: Babylon Church destroyed (Rev. 14:8)

 

Another angel followed, saying, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication."(Rev. 14:8)

A.                 "Is fallen, is fallen – twofold judgment (spiritual world network, literal political city)

      1. Babylon the Harlot Church is destroyed (middle of 7 year period) Rev. 17.
      2. Babylon the political city destroyed (end of 7 year period) Rev. 18.

B.                 Made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication –

V.                 Eternal judgment: Refuse the mark (apostasy) (Rev. 14:9-11)

 

Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name." (Rev. 14:9-11)

A.                 If anyone worships the Antichrist (beast, his image, receives his mark) –

B.                 Drink of the wine of the wrath of God poured out in full strength – 

C.                 Tormented with fire and brimstone as the smoke of their torment ascends forever

VI.             Eternal Reward: Blessing for perseverance (Rev. 14:12-13)

 

Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. 13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Write: 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them."  (Rev. 14:12-13)

A.                 Patience of the saints who keep God’s commandments and the faith of Jesus

B.                 Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on –

C.                 “Yes," says the Spirit, "they rest from their labors, and their works follow them"
