Dear customer,
You have just acquired Zoner Draw 5, the latest version of this vector
graphics editor. We thank you for having chosen our product to serve
your graphics needs. e handbook that you have just begun reading
aims to help you master this program’s features quickly and to use them
as eff ectively as you can. And we wish you much success in this.
ABOUT ZONER DRAW 5
Zoner Draw 5 is a vector graphics editor. We designed it for the widest
possible range of uses—as the kind of program that deserves a place on
any computer. With its simple and well-organized interface, designed
around the principle of reasonable and su cient controls (enough to
do what you need, yet not so many as to be confusing), the program
is aimed primarily at ordinary users with a basic knowledge of Win-
dows; users need not understand work w it h g raphics before sta r t ing to
use Zoner Draw. Yet at the same time, with every new version, Zoner
Draw’s capabilities come closer to those needed for fully professional
work. It will meet all your graphics needs, from creating simple signs
and banners to drawing complex illustrations. Use it to create eff ective
promotional materials and leafl ets, business cards, price lists, letter-
heads, maps, signs, postcards, greeting cards, etc. It can also be used
to create Web graphics.
What, and for whom,
is Zoner Draw?
Zoner, Inc., the producer of Zoner Draw, is known as a producer of qual-
ity so ware for graphics, multimedia, and e-commerce, and in recent
years especially as a producer of so ware for digital photography. Its very
fi rst graphics editor, Zebra—all the way back in the days of DOS!—was
renowned among users and experts alike. It continued with a Windows
version of this editor, followed by its fi rst modern editor, Zoner Callisto,
later renamed to Zoner Draw. Over the years, this graphics editor has
also acquired renown among users and received numerous awards.
Above all, in 1998, Zoner Callisto 3 gained the prestigious Finalist Best
of Show award at the world’s largest IT fair, CeBIT ’98 in Hannover,
Germany, for its excellent Internet graphics capabilities.

Zoner Draw 5 aims to continue in this tradition of successes. e new
features in this version refl ect the experience our development team
gained during the development of Zoner Photo Studio, a comprehensive
digital photo processing program, which ties into its equally successful
predecessor, the Zoner Media Explorer series.
The competition
As in all fi elds of l i fe, t here is competition in the fi eld of graphics editors.
e most well-known graphics editors in the world are Corel DRAW
and Adobe Illustrator. ese a re ver y h ig h-qua l it y produc t s f rom st rong
and experienced fi rms, and are very useful for professional graphics
design. On the other hand, ordinary computer users, who will never
use the full range of these products’ functions, must still pay full price
for them, and these programs also have very high minimum system
requirements—sometimes requiring users to invest more in their
computers just for the sake of a single program.
Zoner Draw 5 is a program aimed at ordinary users—it closely ap-
proaches the vector graphics capabilities of the editors mentioned above,
but with lower demands on users’ hardware and a very acceptable price.
For registered users, we also guarantee technical support, which users
of all previous versions have greatly appreciated.
Design aims of
Zoner Draw
e latest version of Zoner Draw is a large step towards a professional
graphics program—it off ers more features and many new tools and func-
tions for working with vector objects, and the quality and variety of import
and export fi lters has improved. Many new features in Zoner Draw 5 arose
based on comments and suggestions from users of previous graphic editors
produced by Zoner, and previous versions of Zoner Draw (and Callisto).
Dear users, we will be grateful when you, too, send us comments and sug-
gestions regarding the program that you now own.

INSTALLATION
Hardware and software
requirements
We recommend that users run Zoner Draw 5 on a PC with the following
parameters (the minimum parameters are listed in parentheses):
• Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
• MSIE 4.01 or higher
• Intel-compatible processor, 300 MHz or higher
• 64 MB of RAM
• 70 MB of free disk space
• 800x600 High Color screen resolution or better
• a CD or DVD drive
• a mouse or a tablet

• a CD with installation programs and fi les:
- Zoner Draw 5 – full version;
- Zoner GIF Animator 4 – full version;
- Zoner Photo Studio 7 CLASSIC (boxed version only);
- Zoner Clip Art – over 5000 images (boxed version only);
• this user guide;
• a registration card;
• a registration number;
e installation program is capable not only of installing the program,
but also of program maintenance, in other words, adding, removing,
and repairing components from the Zoner Draw 5 package, as well as
completely uninstalling the package.
During installation, you’ll see a splash screen and then a dialog where you
can choose to install Zoner Draw, repair your installation, or uninstall it.
Installation
To start Zoner Draw 5, use the menu called up by the Start button on the
Windows taskbar ( Start | Programs | Zoner Draw 5 | Zoner Draw 5 ).
If you use the program daily, we recommend that you create a program
icon on your Windows desktop.
We ask that you fi ll out and mail your registration card once you have
installed Zoner Draw 5, so you can gain access to all the advantages of
registered users; the most important advantage is technical support. If you
have doubts as to whether or not you are using the program legally, contact
ZONER so ware, and we will be glad to off er you detailed information.
Registration card
Please always keep in mind that the following activities are against the law :
• using a product license on more than one computer at once;
• creating copies of the program (except for a single,
backup copy);
• transferring the right to use the program to another person;
• lending or renting the product;
• changing or reverse-engineering the product;
• including the product in other products and distributing
the products thus created.
Licensing conditions
e most common illegal activity connected with so ware is for an or-
ganization to use more copies of a program than it has the right to use.
In such cases, the employee responsible for such use can be sued just as
if he or she were using a pirated copy of the program. Please, therefore,
obtain all needed licenses for this program—the price is not high, and by
paying it, you are supporting the program’s further development.
