Displaying your image in 3D Blocks

The week, we are going to take and image and make it look like it is created out of 3D blocks. This is
fun effect that has some graphic punch.
Step 1: Create a new document, make it the size of your desired block size
Step 2: Select all Cmd/Ctrl+A
Step 3: Choose edit>stroke 1 pixel and any color will work

Step 4: Define a pattern:
Edit>Define pattern
Step 5: Close and dispose the document, its not needed anymore
Open the image that you want to apply the effect to
Step 6: Create a new layer
Choose Edit>fill
Choose pattern and select out new pattern from the library
Step 7: Cmd/Ctrl+Click on the layer thumbnail to select the grid you just created with the pattern fill

Step 8: Press Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection
Step 9: With the selection active click on the image layer (background)
Press ctrl/cmd+J to copy the selection to a new layer.
His the original grid layer on the top
The layers palette should now look like this
Step 10: Press the little “f” at the bottom of the layers palette and apply a drop shadow and a bevel
as shown
Step 11: Press the little “f” at the bottom of the layers palette and apply a drop shadow and a bevel
as shown

And you will now have the effect
Have fun with this effect and experiment with it a bit, you can have a lot of fun with this one!
