Following the success of her last disc ‘Habanera’, Garanca brings her ‘golden mezzo’ (The Times) to the passion and tragedy of opera’s romantic heroines in this new album. This exquisite portrait includes well-loved classics such as Saint-Saëns’s 'Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix' from Samson et Dalila, as well as rarely performed gems by Charles Gounod, Nicola Vaccai, Lalo and Tchaikovsky. Garanca is joined by opera specialist Yves Abel, who draws excellent playing from the Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Abel’s affinity with the voice and his particular skill in this repertoire makes him a superb partner for Garanca. Together they illuminate the romance and drama of some of the most beautiful arias of the mezzo soprano repertoire.
