Materials
Anchor Stranded Cotton; 1 skein each, Scarlet 46, Cardinal 22,
and Grass Green 246. Use 2 strands throughout.
2 pieces 14 cm x 14 cm White Aida fabric, 14 blocks to 2.5 cm.
11 cm x 15.5 cm Cream craft card, with an 8 cm square aperture.
2 pieces, 15.5 cm z 22 cm White organdie fabric.
80 cm of Red Satin ribbon 9 mm wide.
Filling for bag, Sweets or Seasonally Spiced Pot-Pourri.
Half a Cinnamon Stick for decoration.

Instructions
HOW TO WORK CARD DESIGN.
Mark the centre of one piece of Aida fabric lengthwise and widthwise
with a line of basting stitches. Centre is indicated by arrows which
should coincide with the basting stitches. Each background square on
Diagram represents one block of fabric or one Cross Stitch. The design
is worked throughout in Cross Stitch. It is important that the upper
half of all crosses lie in the same direction throughout. Commence the
design centrally and work embroidery following Diagram, Key to
Diagram and Stitch Diagram. On completion of embroidery press
lightly on wrong side.
CROSS STITCH
Bring the thread through at the lower right hand side, insert the needle
1 block up and 1 block to the left and bring out 1 block down, thus
forming a half cross, continue in this way to the end of the row.
Complete the upper half of the cross as shown. Cross Stitch may be
worked either from right to left or left to right but it is important that
the upper half of all crossed should lie in the same direction.
MAKE UP
trim fabric and place embroidered piece in card and stick firmly into
position, making sure the embroidery is centred in aperture. Fold
back flap which conceals the reverse of the embroidery and stick firmly
into position.
TO MAKE BAG
Follow the embroidery instructions as given for card on to the second
piece of Aida fabric. Trim fabric to within 1.5 cm of embroidery, 1 cm
has been allowed for the edge neatenings. Turn in 1 cm all round and
tack the raw edges to the back. Pin to one piece of organdie fabric,
making sure the design is central widthwise but more to the lower
edge lengthwise and stitch neatly into position. This article requires
French seams, enabling the raw edges to be enclosed neatly. Place
both pieces or organdie fabric together with wrong sides facing, tack
and sew seam around three sides, 0.5 cm from the edge thus
constructing a bag. Turn bag through to the wrong side and press. At
about 1 cm from edge, a second row of stitching must be sewn to finish
the seam, taking care not to allow the threads of the turning to
protrude through. Turn through to right side and press. Turn top
edge of bag over twice and neatly slip stitch. Add your choice of
contents and tie up with ribbon, adding the cinnamon stick for a
finishing touch.
