THREAD BELL

MATERIALS: crochet hook size 3, knit-cro-sheen (1 ball will make approx. 5 to 6 bells)

SIZE: About 3" high

DIRECTIONS:

Ch 4 and join with sl st to form a ring.
Row 1: 8 sc in ring. Join with sl st. Ch 1
Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st (16 sc)
Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st as joining. * Ch 1, sk 1 sc, 3 dc in next sc. Repeat from * around. End with ch 1, sl st in top of the beginning ch 3. Each group of dc = 1 shell -- You will have 8 shells around.
Rnd 4: Sl st across to next ch-1 space. Ch 3, 2 dc in that space, ch 1. * 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in top of beginning ch-3.
Rnds 5 through 8: Work same as for Rnd 4.
Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in top of first dc. * 5 dc in next ch-1 space, sc in the center dc of next shell. Repeat from * around, ending last repeat with a sl st in first sc made. Fasten off.

OPTIONAL: Clapper: Ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. * sc in each sc around, then dec in each st around until 1 st is left.* Next, ch 40, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Repeat from * to *. Fasten off and work inn loose ends. Fold ch in half. Pull folded ch through the hole in the top of bell, forming a loop. Place pencil through loop; then, from inside the bell, tie a knot in the chain. The 2 balls at each end of chain form the clapper and the loop on top gives you a loop by which to hang the bell.
