Summary
This document shows how owners of C5 platform A6 or allroad vehicles with an
Infotainment CAN Bus are able to safely take advantage of the all the valuable functionality
that a CAN Bus based multi-function steering wheel can provide. This significantly enhances
the user experience of the RNS-E and BT telephone installations that have been so
thoroughly documented on the Navplus.US forum. Most of the information will also be
relevant to the B5, D2 and TT platforms. It also applies to these models if you have a manual
gearbox and/or do not want a heated wheel. It does not apply to B6, B7 or A3 platforms.
If the MFSW system is not provided at the factory on an Audi A6 C5 platform there are no
components that support it included in the vehicle build. The work documented here is novel
and differs significantly from what has been recorded elsewhere by giving comprehensive
details of the research and design work required for implementation. Challenges particular to
installation in rest of the world models have been addressed as well as those for vehicles built
for the USA market.
