Matador Pick-up Stand opposite the receiver
and support beneath her palms or wrists. The water
depth should be comfortable for her.
Invite the reciver to go inside and to squeeze your
hands when she is ready to be floated. Open her
left arm (your right arm) to the side.
Step into the space created. Without contact, hook
your left leg behind partner’s left calf, like a judo
trip. Continue to support both hands.
Reach under the arm to grasp the back of the head
with the “Horns of the Bull” grip. Nestle your
shoulder reassuringly into her side.
Pull gently on partner’s arm and guide her head into
the water. Use your thigh to lift the hips if necessary.
Support under the spine with your forearm. Do the
“Yo” movement to keep the chin down.
Re-grasp above the wrist with an overgrip. This will
give you more control in the coming Matador. Take
your time, step by step. A good beginning is a slow
one without surprises or shocks.

Walk a slow half circle keeping the legs near the
surface. Pull the head toward you and thread
quietly into 1st, your foot arm under the sacrum.
Back Waves The sequence begins with gentle
spinal articulations with a soft hand. Lift on partner’s
inbreath enough to feel a bit of her weight.
Travel headwards with the Flat Crab walk. Do a
run from the sacrum up to between the shoulder
blades and back down.
Do another run with Back Crab walking, pushing
and pulling on the erector spinae muscle bundles.
Transfer your weight from foot foot to head foot.

Away
...then cross your foot foot behind and transfer your
weight back. These are the two phases of the Back
Crab Walk body mechanics.

Head Wave Using the Bowl Grip, travel back-
wards with 123 weaving Geisha steps. Lead it
from the top of the head, crown slightly lifted.
Hara Hug Rock in Horse Stance. Palm of the
head hand is facing down. C-curve the neck and
head on the rock footwards.
As the back sinks, c-curve the head. Do three
times: upper back, middle back, lower back. Then
begin at the top again and work downwards.
Caterpillar Stand above the head in Warrior
Stance. Your palm on the back rolls and lifts with
countertraction to the Monkey Frisbee head grip.
Head Wave with Trapezius Massage With a
Monkey Frisbee grip beneath the head, massage
the inside trapezius (in the circle), fingers up, thumb
down.
45º Head Wave Bring partner 45º onto her side out
of the last dip of the shoulder in the circling. Baby
Godzilla backwards, small wave, much traction.

Take advantage of the control that both hands
give you to maintain partner 45º on her side. Use
lots of traction, not much sideways movement.
SEAWEED Hara Hold In a low Horse Stance
guide the head to the left shoulder. Your hand rests
on receiver’s hand on the hara. Sideways “rocklets”.
Warrior 8 Complete only two thirds of the sweep
before falling backwards into the walks. Keep your
back knee aligned over your toes in the pivot.
The Geishas backwards are in a curve now to
impart a “sense of eight”. Visualize the shape as you
offer the movement.
Back Lift Use the Flower Grip to lift the back,
beginning under the lower ribcage. Keep the head
weighted on your shoulder. Use your legs to lift in
Warrior, when between the shoulder blades.
The faster you sweep across, the stronger the
stretch. Imagine that the body travels headwards
constantly in this figure.

One hand pushes up from underneath while the
other pulls down from above in countertraction to
each other.
The Rib 8 Hold the sides of the ribcage in stance
and “bicycle” the ribcage in a figure 8. Shift your
grip up and down the ribcage.
Armwrap 8 Cross partner’s arm on her chest.
Grasp the opposite elbow and stretch. Weave back-
wards in a Geisha 8.
Partner’s back will remain rounded as she rolls side
to side. Transfer your hands to cover hers. Continue
walking the Geisha 8.
Float the head to your elbow crook and back up
with Godzilla Steps, doing the Serenity Wave.
Partner’s body is at at a 45º angle.
T3 “Turn, traction, tuck.” Use the Hand Mirror
traction and start turning headwards in a small
Geisha circle.
