Here's my box template:

1. cut two square pieces of paper (large for base, small for lid)

                7" x 7"

                5" x 5"

2. score the large square  1-3/4" from all four sides

3. score the small square just a little bit less than 3/4 of an inch from each edge. (the little bit less will be equivalent to about 1/16th of an inch to allow the lid to be slightly larger than the box so it won't be so tight). If you do it at 3/4th of an inch, your lid will fit, but very stubbornly! Most certainly do not score your edges more than 3/4th of an inch!!

4. okay, this part you will do for both squares:

                  see attachment for cutting directions

5. once you've cut your corners, fold along all of your scored edges. Tuck your short pieces on the corners to the inside of the box or lid and secure all edges together with sticky strip or another strong adhesive.

6. You may find your edges uneven depending on how precise you are with your scoring tool. With a steady hand and some small sharp scissors, trim off any paper edges that cause your box to look untidy.

7. Finish your box with a decorative and removable sleeve if you wish. This not only looks more finished, but it helps to ensure the lid is securely in place. At this point you may choose to add more decoration and embellishments, but I like the simplicity of a complementary colored or patterned paper sleeve around the box.
