"To understand the processes involved in unorthodox
forms of healing, it is necessary to understand what
man is, as understood in the terms of parapsychologi-
cal research. The human exists as an outer, denser
layer of matter called the physical body, and as an in-
ner finer substance called the etheric body. It is the

the time of death the outer layer is dissolved; the in-
ner layer continues to function in a dimension proper-
ly attuned to it. This 'nonphysical' half of our universe,'
as I call it, is that 'world of the mind' mentioned by
Professor Joseph B. Rhine, formerly of Duke Universi-
ty; and it is undoubtedly the same realm that religion
likes to call Heaven and Hell."

Introduction
According to The New York Times of June 18, 1978,
"the practice of spiritual healing, traditionally associ-
ated with pentecostal groups, is rapidly gaining favor
in thousands of Roman Catholic and Episcopal
churches, institutions that have long been uncomfort-
able with the ancient Christian practice." The newspa-
per goes on to explain that healing services in estab-
lished churches stress long-range spiritual and physi-
cal healing, in conjunction with modern medicine and
counseling. This includes the traditional "laying on of
hands," with results being recorded in increasing num-
bers.
"The growing interest in healing has been stimulated
by the charismatic movement, with its emphasis on
the Holy Spirit, by disillusionment with science, by re-
newed interest in the supernatural, and by a new wave
of healers, particularly Ruth Carter Stapleton, who's
drawn praise from many sources."
"As long as you're healthy" is a favorite saying of our
times and the idea that good health represents a most
valuable asset seems to run through all cultures and
economic strata. "Be healthy" is a jovial Jewish expres-
sion; "Safad, dinero, y amor"
- "Health, money and love" - is a Spanish toast, putting
health first; the French toast to "votre sante"; the Ger-
man to "Auf dein Wohl." In English we do the same,
saying, "To your health."
