============================================ Release Notes for Electronics Workbench 3.0D ============================================ Welcome to Version 3.0 of Electronics Workbench. The following information was received too late to be included in the Electronics Workbench User's Guide. --------------- Analog tutorial --------------- As you follow the tutorial in Chapter 4: Trying Out the Test Instruments, make sure the oscilloscope trigger is set to Auto. (Auto triggering is the default setting, useful for most purposes.) ----------------------- Frequency of AC sources ----------------------- AC circuits can have only one frequency. If a circuit uses more than one AC source, setting the frequency for one source automatically changes all other AC sources to the same frequency. ------------------ Grounding circuits ------------------ Grounding an analog circuit is necessary only if the circuit includes an opamp, transformer or controlled source, or if an oscilloscope is used. (The oscilloscope itself does not need to be grounded.) Digital circuits do not need grounding. ---------------------------------- Batteries and switches in parallel ---------------------------------- Batteries and switches in Electronics Workbench have no resistance. If you want to use batteries or switches in parallel, insert a 1-ohm resistor in series with each one--otherwise you'll have a short circuit. -------------------------------------------------- Selecting components may solve simulation problems -------------------------------------------------- When a circuit has both very large and very small values, inherent problems in matrix algorithms may result in simulation errors. If you see an error message such as "internal error," try selecting one or two components in the circuit. Then activate the circuit again. Selecting components changes their order in the solution matrix, so the problem may no longer exist. ----------- Model files ----------- Nonlinear component models supplied with Electronics Workbench are no longer stored in the DEFAULT.MOD file. Instead, each nonlinear component has its own DEFAULT model file, which is installed in the MODELS directory. Now changes to one component's models have no effect on other components.
