Make Jesus famous in your local community
“You will be my witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the
ends of the earth.”

Go local. Go to people near you. Go to people like you. Go to people not like you.
Go local is about you getting up and making Jesus famous in your community, in
your part of the world. Bring together some friends, co-workers, and neighbors and
share the message and love of Jesus with your community.
The world is broken. Divorce. Crime. Pollution. War. Hate. Everywhere you look the
world is suffering, hurting, and broken. Jesus has sent you to bring his message and
show his love to a hurt and dying world. What will you do to go local? What will you
do to be his witness?

talking with God.
Hear the Bible Read this as a Group
Background: The ancient city of Jerusalem sat near the Mediterranean coast
of the Middle East and served as the capitol of Judea and the religious center for
the Jews. While Judea and Samaria shared a border and a similar history, they
grew to hate each other. Jesus spoke this command while he and his disciples
were in Jerusalem.
“You will be my witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends
of the earth.”

5. Live. Jesus calls you to be his witness locally and globally. Today, focus on who
your group can reach out to locally and what that might look like.
1. What did you like about this reading?
Answer these questions as a group.
• Your Jerusalem could be your friends, coworkers, and neighbors. Make a list of
the people around you that you could reach out to.
2. What did you not like or ind confusing about this reading?
• Where is your Judea? Who is in your Judea? What can your group do to reach
out to these people? Is there a way to do a community service project and share
the message of Jesus with these people?
What it means
• Who is in your Samaria? Who are people who are disliked, shunned, oppressed
or ignored? Maybe these are immigrants, homosexuals, or rich businessmen.
What could your group do to reach these people?
3. What does this reading teach about people? What does this teach about your
mission as a follower of Jesus?
• Go global in your own community. Immigrants, refugees, and international students
live in your city or even down your street. What can you do to reach them?
Make a decision. Narrow down the choices. Who will you focus on? Will your group
make another list of 50, do a community service project, reach out to the oppressed,
or ind some other way to serve locally? Decide as a group what you will do to better
reach the group of people you focus on.

Background: John the Baptist became well known for calling people to repent
from their wrongs and be baptized to get ready for the coming Savior of the world.
John recognized Jesus as this savior, but as time passed he began to doubt.
Jesus went to a town called Nain, and
his disciples and a large crowd went
along with him. As he approached the
town gate, a dead person was being
carried out—the only son of his mother,
and she was a widow. And a large crowd
from the town was with her. When the
Lord saw her, his heart went out to her
and he said, “Don’t cry.”
Then he went up and touched the cofin,
and those carrying it stood still. He said,
